Boccieri: “Gov. Strickland’s executive order honors the service and sacrifice of America ’s veterans”
Canton, OH – State Sen. and 16th Congressional District candidate John Boccieri released the following statement today in response to Gov. Strickland’s executive order granting in-state tuition rates to all veterans of the U.S. Armed Forces and their families:“Governor Strickland’s executive order honors the service and sacrifice of America ’s veterans not just with words, but with the kind of real support they deserve. The men and women I have fought with in Afghanistan and Iraq are exceptional leaders, thinkers, and doers, and the chance for them and their families to attend Ohio colleges at in-state tuition rates will brighten both their futures and the future of our state.”
Kyle Kutuchief, at The Point, did areally good break-down of the rates and shares a great piece of video with Governor Strickland at the signing conference.
On another note, I visited with Ian Walton, Campaign Manager, at the campaign headquarters yesterday afternoon. Things are moving quickly and Ian reported that Senator Major John Boccieri(D-Alliance) is being incredibly well recepted in Ashland, Medina, Stark and Wayne Counties, the four counties that comprise the 16th Congressional District. We kicked the weekend off by cheering on the baseball teams at the Canton vs. Massillon little league game. The kids really showed a lot of spirit in the contest and we congratulate the Canton squad for their win.
Then, John and a team of volunteers attended Canton's Concert in the Park. The Canton Symphony Orchestra did a great job entertaining the thousands of spectators, and the weather was perfect for a nice evening out at the McKinley Monument. After that it was "no time to stop!", The Ashland Balloonfest Backyard BBQ Benefit, the North Canton 4th of July Parade, the Chippewa Lake 4th of July Parade, the East Sparta Homecoming Parade, the Wooster Bicentennial Parade, then onto a House Party with Governor Ted Strickland. Somewhere in there, The Major had a training mission he had to fly. Keep your eyes open! It's hard telling where you might run into him.
I couldn't help noticing that we've brought in new volunteers and the Staff is moving like well oiled machine. Field Director, Chris Cupples introduced me to a new volunteer, as he made preparations for The Major's upcoming events. Standby for details, he's got his hands full trying to keep up with the "our" highly energetic candidate.
We're always happy to bring new volunteers onboard and there is plenty of work to go around. You can help Team Boccieri by calling (330)-754-0534 or just walk in at 601 Cleveland Ave., NW, Canton, OH. We have phoning and canvassing opportunities every day of the week. If you are interested, give us a call or just stop by headquarters anytime (Monday-Friday) between 11AM and 7PM. A couple of hours a day can secure a victory in the November General Election!
