OH-16: John Boccieri - Competing Beyond the Olympics

As we cheer for all the U.S. athletes competing to bring home the gold in Beijing, I want to thank you for helping us meet our own campaign goals.

Because of your incredible support, we hit our goal of $6,845, and our message of change will stay on the radio in the 16th Congressional District. This would not have been possible without your grassroots energy.

The Olympic Games in China raise another important issue that we need to address. Like so many of you, I'm thrilled by the spirit and excitement of the games - but I also know that a gold, silver and bronze medal in every event couldn't begin to bring back the economic treasure America has lost to China in recent years.

A just-released report found that Ohio ranks fifth out of all 50 states for the number of jobs we've lost to China - more than 102,000 since 2001.

Unfair trade deals and poor economic leadership in Washington have also allowed China to buy huge amounts of U.S. debt, manipulate our currency, dump artificially cheap and sometimes unsafe products on the American market, and buy out U.S. companies like Hoover.

We need a major change in our approach to global trade if we're going to compete with countries like China and help America's middle class get ahead again.

I've released a plan to compete beyond the Olympics by fighting for fair trade and restoring America's competitiveness. Click here to read the plan.

As always, I invite you to contact me with suggestions or ideas of your own. Thank you for all that you do.

Sincerely,

John Boccieri
